20 April 2012. The Business Innovation Day took place for the fourth time that Friday. The Business Innovation Profile Area of the University of St.Gallen organises this day once a year in order to honour achievements by HSG researchers and to discuss latest findings with experts from science and practice. This year, Business Innovation Day focused on networking and new technologies.

Pilot project in research evaluation
In his lecture Dr. med. Ijad Madisch, Co-Founder and Managing Director of ResearchGate Corp., shed light on the role of the social media in science. He explained that networking through social networks was already working well in the natural sciences but that the social sciences have been taking little advantage of these networks to date. Subsequently Prof. Dr. Miriam Meckel presented the pilot project in research evaluation. The cooperation venture between the Business Innovation Profile Area of the University of St.Gallen and ResearchGate is intended to drive networking in the social sciences forward, declared Meckel. She received the Communication Impact Award of the Business Innovation Day for the book NEXT, which zooms in on the digitalisation of society.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Stölzle, the Head of the Profile Area, moderated the event.
