6 September 2011. The Freshman Week will provide the newcomers with an opportunity to deal with the complex issue of food security. In the case study, they will be concerned with the countries of Bangladesh and Mozambique. Subsequently, they will assume the part of “social entrepreneurs” to develop project ideas about how the food shortage in these countries can be reduced and food security can be guaranteed. They will be supported in their efforts by 150 student tutors. The best projects will be presented before a jury in Olma Hall 2.1 on Friday, 16 September 2011.

Kick-Off Day: Art as business and business as art

On 15 September 2011, the HSG will welcome the newcomers at the Master’s and Doctoral Levels to the traditional Kick-Off Day. This year’s topic, “Art as business and business as art”, will provide students with an opportunity to discuss overlaps and interactions between the two areas. As early as the Renaissance, Florentine merchants supported Italian artists and enabled them to work creatively. Today, globalisation has blurred the clear-cut relations between artists and financiers. Art itself has partially become a product that can be sold to the highest bidder. How much business art can cope with and how much art business requires is the question that students will debate during the English-language Kick-Off Day.
