7126 students at the HSG

In Autumn Semester 2011, 7126 students are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (previous year: 6726). The overall proportion of women is 31,76 (30,82) per cent. The students come from 83 nations.

19 December 2011. A total of 1332 (1191) young people are studying in the Assessment Year. The proportion of women at this level amounts to 33 (32) per cent. From among the 2491 (2465) undergraduates at the Bachelor’s Level, 770 (725) are women, which is tantamount to 31 (29) per cent. 31 (31) per cent of the 2535 (2261) students enrolled at the Master’s Level are women. The proportion of women among the 735 (782) doctoral students is 33 (32) per cent.

Cantons of St.Gallen and Zurich strongly represented
In the statistics of the cantons of origin (residence at the time of admission to the University), the Canton of Zurich with 968 (915) beat the Canton of St.Gallen with 832 (825) into second place. Third place is occupied by the Canton of Thurgau with 316 (320) students, followed by the Canton of Berne with 314 (295) students. Substantial groups are also provided by the Canton of Aargau with 301 (305) students, Lucerne with 229 (217) students and the Grisons with 204 (194) students at the University of St.Gallen.

Internationality on the increase
The largest group of foreign students come from the German-speaking countries: Germany 1431 (1387), Austria 171 (171) and Liechtenstein 66 (65). Major groups come from France 66 (62), China 58 (52), the USA 52 (49), Russia 46 (42), Italy 36 (33), Spain 34 (25), Brazil 30 (22), Japan 29 (2), Singapore 29 (26), Sweden 26 (14), the UK 26 (22), Poland 21 (12) and India 20 (15). The number of students from the Asian region registered a particular increase. All in all, students from 83 (80) nations are enrolled at the HSG. The quota of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25 per cent by law.

The enrolment statistics are published annually in December.
