Football with HSG women's team

For the first time in the history of Swiss university sports, besides the men's team a HSG/PHS women’s team participated in the Swiss University Football Championships.

11 May 2009. This is all the more remarkable since the percentage of women students at the HSG is only just under 30%. Uni Sports Teacher Sandro Felber coached the St.Gallen side before the tournament in Lausanne, where they did not manage to score any points but put up a brave fight in the narrow defeats against Magglingen (0:1) and Geneva (0:2).

Learned the hard way
Against the seasoned women’s teams of the University of Lausanne and the Zurich Federal Institute of Technology, however, the Eastern Swiss side had to learn the hard way, with scores of 0:8 and 0:10 respectively. It comes as no surprise that these two teams head the championships table of the nine university teams. The HSG/PHS side came last, without any points.

Men's team: Final round missed by one point
The men’s football team missed the final round of the best four sides by only one point at the Swiss University Championships in Lausanne and reached a notable fifth place among the twelve university teams.

The St.Gallen side chalked up victories against the University of Zurich (2:1), Ticino (5:1), the Lausanne Federal Institute of Technology (2:0), a score draw against the University of Lausanne II (2:2), and one single defeat against the University of Fribourg (0:1). Behind Fribourg (12 points) and Lausanne II (11 points), the HSG (10 points) reached the unrewarding third group place, which was not sufficient for the final round.
