How German Ministers favor their hometowns

The executive members of German regional states should actually act in the overall interest of their region. However, as a new study with the cooperation of the Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research of the HSG (SIAW-HSG) reveals, this is not always the case. When allocating resources in the form of public employees, the studied incumbents favored their hometowns to a relevant extent. Co-author Mariana Lopes da Fonseca of the SIAW-HSG, drawing on other studies, concludes that these distortions probably exist independently of the institutional context and the type of government formation.
