Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is a comprehensive, web-based, data research service used by academic, government and non-profit institutions around the world. WRDS handles all data management and provides the user with one location to access a variety of research databases through a common interface. Use of the WRDS services is for academic and non-commercial research purposes only.

Our subscription comprises the following databases:

Subscribers have access to additional databases at no charge (e.g. CBOE Indexes, Penn World Tables, TRACE etc.).

Day Pass

You can log into WRDS with an ‘Access Pass’. Go to the Access Pass. page. You will be asked to enter an email account. Please use an account with our university’s domain at the end (e.g., or WRDS will subsequently send an email to this account with your Access Pass. Click on the link in this email and you will be directed to the licensed databases of WRDS. Your Access Pass is valid for three days after which you will have to apply for a new one (no limits).

Personal account

Faculty staff, doctoral students, and master students of the University St. Gallen have the option to register for a personal account at WRDS. Click on the link underneath the question ‘Already have a personal WRDS account?’ on the WRDS homepage. On the following page choose: ‘Register for a WRDS account’, and fill out the form on the left hand side. For the entry ‘Affiliation with Institution’, select ‘faculty’ (faculty staff), ‘phd’ (doctoral students), or masters. You will receive confirmation as soon as your application has been approved. Afterwards, you can access your personal account anytime through the entry: ‘Already have a personal WRDS account?’ Your account will be valid for several months and can be extended if necessary.



For 2FA, there are several options: DUO smartphone app, text message or using a landline for code delivery.
