Web of Science

(Clarivate Analytics)

An advantage of the Web of Science over solely specialist databases (article databases) is its interdisciplinary nature, the wide range of subjects, including arts, humanities, social sciences, medicine, natural sciences and technology.

Approximately 9,200 scientific journals with 37 million articles in all subject areas are evaluated.

  • General or separate search in the partial databases of Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science (CPCI-S), Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Social Science & Humanities (CPCI-SSH) (ISI proceedings)
  • Using the Cited References of an article enables you to follow research development retrospectively.
  • By using the Cited Reference Search (articles that have cited an article), you can follow research development prospectively.
  • By using the search for related articles which cite the same literature, you can Find Related Records.
  • To a certain extent, there are direct links to full texts.
  • There is an export format for literature management programs such as EndNote®, EndNote Web, Reference Manager® and ProCite®

Since January 2015 the portal Web of Science gives you access to the following additional databases:

  • Derwent Innovations Index: 1963 - present
  • Data Citation Index: 1900 - present
  • Book Citation Index: 2005 - present
  • Current Contents Connect (incl. Business Collection): 1998 - present
  • SciELO Citation Index: 1997 - present
  • Biosis Citation Index: 1926 - present
