Appointment: Federico Luisetti

Federico Luisetti ist seit 1. August 2024 Ordentlicher Professor für Italianistik und Umweltstudien an der Universität St.Gallen (HSG).

Prof. Dr Federico Luisetti completed his studies with a Laurea in Aesthetics (summa cum laude) at the University of Turin, Department of Philosophy, in 1994. In 2001, he received his PhD in Comparative Literature from the Graduate Centre of the City University of New York, specialising in the history and theory of encyclopaedic writing. From 2002 to 2006, he worked as a research assistant and then lecturer in the Communication Studies programme of the University of Turin. In 2005, Federico Luisetti continued his university career as Assistant Professor of Italian Studies in the Department of Romance Studies of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Between 2013 and 2017, he served as full Professor of Italian Studies and Head of the Department of Romance Studies. Since 1 February 2018, he has been Associate Professor of Italian Culture and Society at the University of St.Gallen, where he serves on the board of the Contextual Studies programme and in the leadership team of the Master in Management, Organization Studies, and Cultural Theory (MOK). He teaches courses on Italian and environmental studies for the Contextual Studies programme and courses on the climate crisis for the Managing Climate Solutions Certificate (MaCS). Federico Luisetti has been a Visiting Professor at Kyoto University, National University of Ireland Galway, and University College Dublin.

Research at the interface between Italian Studies and the Environmental Humanities

Federico Luisetti conducts research at the interface between Italian Studies and the Environmental Humanities. His publications and research cover topics related to Italian culture, society, and environment, and to broader planetary issues, such as the social implications of climate change and Global North/Global South relations. As an invited speaker, he has lectured at universities and organizations across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Africa. In 2020, he launched with Flurina Gradin an interdisciplinary network in the Environmental Humanities, "Unruly Natures", which is the hub for collaborative interdisciplinary research activities and outreach initiatives.
