Frequently Asked Questions Below you will find the most frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the offerings of the Self-Learning Center. How much does the use of the Self-Learning Center cost? The offerings of the Self-Learning Center are free to students and affiliates of the University of St.Gallen. For others, there is a fee of CHF 60.- per semester or CHF 30.- per started month. What can I take with me to the Self-Learning Center? In general, the same rules apply for the Self-Learning Center as for the university's library. Food and beverages (excluding water) are not permitted. Jackets and bags have to be deposited at the coat rack (lockers are available) of the Language Center. Locks can be rented from the proctor. Can I rent books or CDs with my students card or my library pass from the Self-Learning center? No, all media in the Self-learning Center is meant to be used only locally at the center. In especially urgent cases (ex: preparing for an exam for the following day), exceptions can be permitted. By depositing your ID, you can rent books overnight. They have to be returned to the Self-Learning Center before it reopens at 2 p.m. the following day. Failure to do so results in a penalty of CHF 25.-. (Note: audio-CDs, audio cassettes or learning software are excluded from this regulation) I want to prepare intensively for an exam. Can I reserve a computer workstation, a learning software, or a book in advance? Yes. You can either reserve on our reservation platform or in person with the proctor during the regular opening hours of the Self-Learning Center. Can I use the Self-learning Center in the break as well? In case of sufficient demand for opening hours within the semester break, we will publish additional opening hours on our homepage shortly beforehand.
