Open Innovation @ HSG Library Looking back on an eventful 2016 In 2015 the HSG library has introduced a digital Speaking Wall for library users as well as an internal ideas forum for library staff. Last year again intense use was made of the two innovation tools. We have received a whole 68 ideas in 2016, a significant increase compared to the previous year. 41 ideas came from library users through the wall of ideas (2015: 15) and 27 ideas came from library staff (2015: 43). As is clear to see, library users have been more innovative than us last year! The wall of ideas is a roaring success and gets used regularly. We were able to put the following ideas into practice in 2016: Ideas from the internal forum Single location for DVDs and audio books in the basement: Charging station for mobile devices in the entry area: Moving the colour printer for a quieter circulation desk: Expansion of seatfinder to include additional study places: Ideas of library users: Searchable e books and text recognition: this has been solved by changing to EBooks Central Aluminum recycling in the library Night of writing skills: limited consultation time to help more people benefit from the offer. New from October 2016: Academic writing advice through the HSG Writing Lab, every Tuesday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the search and find desk in the library More week lockers: in June 2016 several day lockers were repurposed into week lockers. A swathe of new charger cables were demanded, we got them. New desk lamps on the study desks, a variety of seating, standing tables and blinds between desks. The new study zone on the upper floor of the library opened in February 2017. More ideas are being evaluated or planned. Many structural measures, such as 24h library services, silent zones entry controls with HSGcard or a drinking fountain can unfortunately only be approached with the expansion of the university (2025). Even if we can’t realise all ideas, we are happy to hear all your proposals. We hope you will continue to make good use of our wall of ideas!
