Top in Efficiency and Development …the library index results BIX 2015 attests the HSG Library good grades (data from 2014). 30th July 2015 BIX (Library index) is a voluntary benchmarking tool for libraries, carried out since 1999 and published yearly by the DBV (Deutscher Bibliotheksverband). Based on operating figures, the library performance is determined in four categories: Services, Usage, Efficiency and Development. The results are displayed as ratings. In the category "Academic Libraries" for the BIX 2015 data from 64 university libraries has been evaluated (data set from 2014). We are delighted about our excellent results in the categories efficiency and development: Our expenditures on literature and information per active library member as well as vocational training days per staff member put us in the top group for 2015. Complete BIX-Rating of Academic libraries 2015 In the categories Services and Usage the HSG Library is in the middle field. Our low number of work stations compared to other libraries is the main reason for this moderate rating. However, in comparison with all libraries, we register good results in expenditures for media per user and instruction sessions participation. Surprisingly, the DBV has informed on July 14th 2015 that the Library Index will be discontinued after 16 years of success. The most important reasons are financial and demand reasons. Considering the raising need for performance measurement and comparison, this decision is regrettable. However, we were able to gain some valuable experience partaking in the Library index that will be helpful for a follow-up procedure. The operating figures for optimising our processes and development will of course be continuously compiled.
