13th May 2015. We would like to inform you about your ideas and wishes that we can realise in the next weeks and months.
Your wish: Lift the ban of bags / Lift the ban of bags in the entry area / Baskets instead of plastic bags
Most likely the most frequent demand. We will test the lifting of bags. During this semesters exam period from the 1st of June to the 28th of June 2015 bags will be allowed in the library. Details will follow shortly. We welcome your feedback on the issue during the exam period.
Alternative for plastic bags: For this idea we will await the results of the trial period mentioned.
Your wish: More week lockers / Less week lockers / Not enough lockers / using lockers near cafeteria as week lockers / Clearing lockers after the library closes
As we have different demands here we will await the next exam period and the above mentioned trial period. Afterwards we will evaluate how we can improve the locker system.
The library building is locked the same time as the library. This is the reason why lockers have to be cleared by this time.
Goodies: Earplugs, Pencils, Paper, etc.
Your wish: Free ear plugs all the time, not just during exam period / Pens at the PC desks / Get sponsors (pencils etc.) / Notepaper
We will continue to offer free earplugs during the exam period. We are currently evaluating offering ear plugs all year round. Pens at the PC desks: We will put this into action starting this week!
Sponsoring: PricewaterhouseCoopers has thankfully been sponsoring 9 weekly opening hours for years. We also have been receiving writing materials from various sponsors. Everything we receive this way is distributed to our users during exam period.
Paper notes can be found on the PC desks and beneath the Infoscreen in the info area of the library, they are sponsored by PwC.
Search and Find / Magazines
Your wish: Improving metasearch: more hits on Google Scholar than in metasearch. Especially hits that do not lead on to full text should be improved. / Hard copies of „The economist“ / Sport Bild on the magazine rack.
We will evaluate an improvement of Metasearch. We will inform you about our measures at a later date.
Magazines: We will happily evaluate these purchase suggestions.
Space problems in the library
Your wish: Online counter of visitors (how full ist he library?) / Access limitations for the library / Passwords for the PCs / Parking meters to prevent seats being reserved for hours.
Online counter: A similar project is being launched on the 1st of June 2015. The beta version of seatfinder will then go online
Access limitation: We are a public library: paragraph 3 of the library regulations state: “The use of the library is open to all.”
"Parkingmeters" (Break notes): We had them until last year, they were hardly ever used and thus removed again.
More comfortable seats
Your wish: More comfortable chairs / More PHD desks for regular students
The chairs will stay the way they are but we are currently discussing new cushions.
PhD-Desks – This is planned for summer 2015.
Your wish: better and faster WiFi / more stable Eduroam/ Adobe Pro on all public PCs / Make printing cheaper
WiFi/Eduroam: We have forwarded this idea to our IT department.
Adobe Pro: We have already installed it on all public PCs .
The price for printing is regulated for the whole university by the university council.
Your wish: open Sundays / always open until 11. pm / Open on Saturdays 8. am until 10. pm / also after break during decentralised exams / open from 7. am
The opening hours were already evaluated and adjusted in 2014 in collaboration with the student union. The statistics (counting users over the course of several years) has further shown, that an expansion of our opening hours is not feasible. For these reasons no further adjustments are planned.
Your wish: Air condition in the library
Unfortunately we can’t install an air conditioning system in our 25 year old library building, which is the reason why we can’t really influence temperatures in the library in Winter and Summer.
Your wish: More plug sockets at the tables in the middle / Equip more tables with lamps / Second entrance on the first floor / Drinking fountain in the library (first floor)
Plug sockets: Unfortunately this is not possible due to building and safety restrictions. However, you can borrow extension cables and socket boards from us.!
Lamps: This demand is understandable; unfortunately it can’t be put into practice that easily due to, among other factors, lacking plug sockets (See point 7.) We have taken this idea into consideration for the planned HSG expansion 2025.
Second entrance: this is not possible due to safety restrictions.
Drinking fountain: We have evaluated the idea, it is not possible due to building restrictions. We have also included the idea for the HSG expansion 2025.
Quiet work stations
Your wish: Noise police / Silent area in which whispering is not allowed. / Group study zone
Noise police – We are not the noise police. Take care of the issue yourself and remind other users to be calm if necessary.
Quiet zone: It is difficult to put this into practice due to the rooms available. However, it is planned for the HSG expansion 2025. Already now there a group study zones in the main building.
Your wish: Announcements in high German
High German and English are standard for all announcements in the library.
Your wish: Paper towels to dry hands with / Shelf space in the toilets
For ecological reasons the whole university has switched to airblades. There are clothing hooks on the inside of the toilet doors and above the sinks there is a small shelf space.
Your wish: The cafeteria in the library building is closing to early / food is too expensive / selecta machines are empty often
We will forward this feedback to the operators of the cafeteria.
Sorry. Cows feel more comfortable on meadows than in libraries. But for all animal friends, we have our library donkey for cuddling.
