The Major in Law (BLaw) equips you with comprehensive knowledge and skills across all key areas of law. This includes civil law, criminal law, public law, and international law. This solid legal education serves as the foundation for a subsequent Master's programme, where the acquired knowledge and skills can be further deepened and specialized.
Our Major in Law equips students with the tools needed to navigate legal issues with purpose and precision while fostering the ability to quickly adapt to new areas of law and legal questions. We train our students to become independent and critical-thinking legal professionals. The programme provides essential knowledge in the areas of private law, public law, criminal law, procedural law, international law, and foundational legal subjects.
BLaw students delve into essential legal subjects in the core curriculum, which are crucial for their future professional practice: Swiss Civil Law (ZGB), Swiss Contract Law (OR), Administrative Law (each 8 ECTS), as well as Tax Law and Legal Methodology & Labor Law (each 4 ECTS).
The program's six elective modules and their corresponding courses are designed to give BLaw students the flexibility to focus on areas of personal interest and specialization. Within the elective area, integrative courses like Moot Courts are offered to enhance practical experience.
Contextual studies, particularly the legal focus area, provide interdisciplinary opportunities, including foundational legal subjects like Legal History, equipping students with complementary skills and knowledge that enrich their core studies.
The Bachelor's thesis serves as a capstone project, allowing students to apply and deepen their legal expertise through a rigorous academic research paper.
Are you interested in tackling a variety of legal issues, such as those handled in law firms or large corporations? Do contracts between international companies or products offered by banks and insurance companies capture your attention? Furthermore, do you enjoy logical and analytical thinking and argumentation? Our Major in Law offers a comprehensive education with a focus on business law. The program is perfectly complemented by the availability of teaching certificates in areas like Data Science or Sustainability, as well as a wide range of exchange opportunities both domestically and internationally.
The BLaw provides an excellent foundation for both legal and non-legal careers. After completing the consecutive Master in Law (MLaw), careers in law practice, prosecution, and judiciary are available to you. However, our graduates also find roles as corporate lawyers, compliance managers, in human resources, as well as in auditing and tax consulting.
Overall, a Bachelor's degree in Law offers a wide range of career opportunities that extend well beyond traditional legal practice and can be applied across various industries and sectors.
