Be a pioneer and become part of our innovative computer science degree program. The Bachelor in Computer Science distinguishes itself by the combination of a computer science degree with business skills. Our students learn the basics to become leaders in technology corporations, launch their own tech startups, or use their integrative and entrepreneurial mindsets to take on responsibility in IT projects.
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is a foundational education programme in entrepreneurial computer science. It combines a scientifically sound and practice-oriented education in computer science with entrepreneurial subjects. In doing so, the University of St.Gallen (HSG) is creating a new educational profile and responds to the shifting demands from the business world. Entrepreneurial computer scientists are sought with good reason: Most of the largest companies (by market capitalization) are tech companies. In these companies, IT is no longer hidden, but is represented right up to the highest management levels. The same is true for many start-ups, which are often built without legacy burdens and as IT-based and highly scalable businesses (e.g. AirBnB, Facebook, Instagram, Uber, WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok). Furthermore, the more traditional companies are under pressure and not only have to digitize their businesses, but often have to reinvent themselves in a digitized world. From this, it becomes clear that a modern understanding of computer scientists in companies comes with a broader field of influence and that it is desirable for them to have an understanding of entrepreneurial contexts. This is exactly what the Bachelor in Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) achieves.
The BCS was first launched in 2022 and it is thus a very new program. This means, for example, that the curriculum includes courses on modern topics and that up-to-date examples are used in the lectures. It is also a programme in which the cohorts are still relatively small. As a result, all students know each other personally and there is a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Last but not least, the combination of the technical study program of computer science with business, economics, law and social topics is attractive for many students. It is particularly appealing to students who are interested in technology but also want to learn something else.
