Admission to the Master's programme in Management, Organization Studies and Cultural Theory (MOK)

The programme is offered by the School of Management and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Instruction is in German. All applicants are subject to a selection process.

Requirements

You may apply for enrolment in this master's programme if you hold a bachelor's or master's degree in economics, law, cultural or social sciences, and in humanities with a minimum average grade (not rounded) of 5.00 (Germany/Austria 2.00, Netherlands 7.50) from a recognised university (not university of applied sciences) or obtain one before your chosen programme starts. If you have not completed your degree by the time of your application, your submitted current transcript must meet the required minimum grade point average. For more information about how we calculate grades, please consult our grade conversion table.

Your degree programme will be recognised if, among other things, the following criteria are fulfilled:

  • your degree was awarded by a university, which is recognised in the country where you attended the course;
  • you have completed at least 80 percent of your course work at a recognised or accredited university;
  • you have completed at least half of the coursework though on-campus study at the university awarding the degree;
  • you fulfil the minimum requirements for admission to a master's degree programme at your home university.

If you have any questions on degree recognition or would like to find out more about what we deem as a degree in similar subjects, please do not hesitate to contact the staff at the Admissions and Crediting Office who will be happy to help you.

You do not need to submit proof of language proficiency when you apply. It is your responsibility to ensure that your command of the language of instruction is sufficient to allow you to complete your studies successfully. Recommended level at the start of the study is at least C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Selection process

If the formal admission regulations are fulfilled and all documents have been submitted, we forward your application to the MOK Admission Committee for the selection process. In this selection process, the MOK Admission Committee will assess your essay on a given topic and your letter of motivation.

Programme-specific additional requirements

Depending on your previous university degree, additional academic credits may be requested upon admission.

In the first year of your master's degree programme you will need to take the following academic credits in addition to your regular master's degree credits. It is possible to transfer equivalent credits that you have already obtained. The amount of academic credits, therefore, depends on your previous degree.

List of subjects (46 ECTS credits):
4 ECTS credits in Strategic Management
4 ECTS credits in Marketing
4 ECTS credits in Innovation Management
6 ECTS credits in Fundamentals of Financial Management (MOK)
6 ECTS credits in Economics and Economic Policy: an introduction (MOK)
4 ECTS credits in Introduction to Private Law (MOK)
18 ECTS credits in Cultural and Social Sciences

All students must take two language courses (foreign languages) in addition to their Master’s degree course to successfully complete their Master's degree programme. Crediting of internationally recognised language certificates is possible during your Master's studies. Please find a list of recognised language certificates in the Directives, Annex I on the last pages of the document.

All students must provide evidence of sufficient accounting knowledge to successfully complete their Master's degree programme. If you have already acquired sufficient knowledge of accounting during your studies, the evidence can be credited during the admission process. If this evidence is missing at the time of admission, the accountancy examination has to be taken at the University of St.Gallen.
