MEcon curriculum The MEcon is a full-time study programme which can be completed in 3 semesters. Language/Duration/Credits The MEcon is taught in both English and German. Core courses for MEcon and MiQE/F are in English. The programme lasts 3 semesters. The course can only be started in the Autumn semester. The MEcon requires course work equating to 90 ECTS in the following areas: Core studies The obligatory area of study comprises a total of six compulsory courses in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, each worth 4 credits, plus two Methodological courses, each worth 3 credits. The core electives allow for a variety of specialisations. Two out of eight core courses must be taken (8 ECTS). Further courses can also be selected from a great range offered by the MEcon and other programmes. In the independent electives you can select further courses from the core electives or from other programmes. Contextual Studies Contextual Studies put the core studies into social, political, historical and philosophical contexts. They teach skills such as presentation and negotiation techniques, which round off the core studies in a meaningful way. Contextual Studies are offered across all programmes. The Practice credits of the MEcon make it possible to build an even broader individual profile allowing up to 6 credits from Contextual Studies or from the independent electives to be replaced by qualified internships. Master’s Thesis The Master’s thesis comprises 18 credits and is written over a maximum period of 12 months. The subject can be from either core studies or Contextual Studies. However, it must be related to the core studies. The thesis must be written in German or English. With special permission it is possible to write the thesis in French or Italian.
