MIA - Master's degree programme for flexible generalists The Master's Programme in International Affairs and Governance (MIA) complements the HSG's well-established Business perspective with components from Economics, Law, and Political Science. Our overarching mission is to bring forth flexible generalists - graduates with the ability to tackle problems comprehensively and communicate across disciplines. At the end of your studies you possess interdisciplinary knowledge and the appropriate conceptual and methodological tools to make sense of a complex world. The expertise of our distinguished faculty of scholars and practitioners allows you to choose from the following fields of specialisation: Foreign Policy and Security Studies International Political Economy Democratisation and Development Public Management / Public Affairs Energy and ResourcesRegional Integration Public International Law / International Organisation Practice-oriented Approach The MIA provides you with the requisite knowledge to take on complexity. The practice-oriented approach becomes manifest in joint-ventures with practitioners from the public and private sector. We bring in experts from international organisations such as the European Central Bank or the World Trade Organisation to provide selected insights into their respective spheres of action. Besides from participating in practical projects with practitioners, our students may also earn Praxis Cedits through internships in companies and public institutions. Excellent Career Prospects The MIA prepares you for an attractive professional career. More than half of our graduates work in the private sector, e.g. banking and financial institutions, insurance companies, consultancies and other multinational corporations. On the public sector side, about 45% are employed by federal, state and local governments, development agencies, international organisations, the media, non-profit organisations as well as universities and research centres. As a Double Degree student you spend one year at the University of St.Gallen and a second year at one of our partner institutions. Upon completion of two academic years, you are awarded two Master’s degrees. Alternatively, MIA students may apply for the CEMS - a one-year Master’s degree course in International Management, which is a prestigious joint Degree Programme offered by the Community of European Management Schools.
