October 12, 2023: Writing Successful Proposals

This practical workshop provides expert advice on writing clear and convincing grant proposals that will enhance your chances of funding success.

Content
How does one write easy-to-read and convincing research proposals? Basic information about the work of funding agencies and evaluation panels helps to understand how proposals are dealt with and how to best meet the expectations of the commitees. To do so, it is crucial to understand the difference between the usual scientific writing style and the language style used in proposals. We highlight the most common mistakes made in grant applications and ways to avoid them.

A combination of presentations and discussions. Practical exercises offer participants a good opportunity to start drafting their own project proposal.

Information event on SNSF proposal applications (funding scheme projects)
Thursday, September 7, 2023, 12.00-14.00, room 01-110 on the HSG main campus

This information event introduces researchers to the project funding scheme of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). What makes a successful SNSF project proposal? What should be considered when writing the research plan? How should the individual requirements of the SNSF be understood in terms of structure and scope? How does the application process work in detail?

The SNSF provides a wide range of detailed information on its website. Ideally, participants have familiarized themselves with this information before the workshop. During the event, we will focus on aspects that are not as obvious, share experiences and work with concrete questions from the participants.

Researchers at HSG, OST and PHSG who are planning an SNSF project application are invited to participate. The workshop will be led by Dr. Anna-Lena Grauel and Dr. Susanne Tönsmann from the Grants Office St.Gallen. Please register by August 31, 2023 by sending an email to research@unisg.ch. Depending on the preference of the participants, the workshop will be held in German or English. Please indicate in your registration if you prefer German or English as workshop language.
