ACA Prize in Financial Governance awarded to Christian Leuz

24 August 2022. On September 13th 2022, the ACA Prize in Financial Governance will be awarded for the sixth time by the Institute of Accounting, Control and Auditing at the University of St.Gallen (ACA-HSG) in recognition of an individual’s outstanding academic achievements. The University of St.Gallen (HSG) is one of Europe’s leading business schools with EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accreditation and renowned for its practice-oriented approach and integrative view. The ACA Prize is among the highest endowed awards in the German-speaking area. It is the successor of the famous Dr. Kausch-Prize of the Fritz Carl Wilhelm Foundation, which has been awarded annually to highly distinguished accounting academics between 1984 and 2016. The ACA-HSG is proud to continue this long-lasting tradition and each year honor an academic for both their significant contribution to the research of accounting, control, corporate finance and auditing and their practical implications.

Christian Leuz receives the award in recognition of his significant research contributions on the economic consequences and evaluation of capital market and transparency regulation. He earned his doctoral degree in 1996 from the Goethe University Frankfurt, where he also received his German postdoctoral degree “Habilitation” in 2000. The Laureate then was the Harold Stott Term Assistant Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania until 2005 and appointed Full Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2006. Since 2008 he is the Joseph Sondheimer Professor of International Economics, Finance and Accounting. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). 

The Prize Laureate is one of the most influential and internationally renowned researchers in the field of accounting and finance. Christian Leuz has shaped these disciplines since the 2000s, primarily with empirical work that has received the highest international recognition in both the academic and regulatory worlds. His numerous scientific articles have been published in leading top-tier journals (including Science, Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies). 

Christian Leuz has received numerous awards for his research, including the prestigious "Distinguished Contributions to Accounting Literature" Award (2014 and 2016) from the American Accounting Association for outstanding contributions to capital market research, the 2012 Humboldt Research Award and the 2011 Wildman Medal Award. The Prize Laureate was recognized by Thomson Reuters as one of the "Most Cited Researchers" and has been included in "The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds" list for five consecutive years (2014-2018). The award of the ACA Prize in Financial Governance 2022 will take place in Zurich as part of the ACA Symposium on September 13th and 14th 2022.
