"Be proud of the journey"

For the graduates, Bachelor Graduation Day is likely to be one of those days filled with familiar feelings, pride.  President Prof. Dr. Bernhard Ehrenzeller began his address in reference to Jane Austen's famous novel “Pride and Prejudice”. "Be proud of the journey you have been on  from the first overwhelming challenges during Start Week, to a hurdle-filled assessment year to the submission of your Bachelor's thesis," Bernhard Ehrenzeller said. Along the way, the graduates have made not only themselves, but also parents, relatives, lecturers and the University proud.

Feelings of happiness and humility

Pride is mostly a positive emotion and should be associated with feelings of happiness, President Ehrenzeller continued. To be proud "of our strength of character, of our goodness, of ourselves as we are." And the longer the happiness is felt, the more strongly humility is felt, the virtuous antithesis to pride. A critical look at what was actually one's own achievement and not just "simple luck," as well as being honest with oneself, would ultimately lead to gratitude. After all, you graduates were also able to count on your innate abilities and the support of your families on the way to your diploma. So bachelor graduates should be proud of the small and big successes of the past years, but never forget to be grateful for all the circumstances and people who helped them on their way, the President concluded his speech.
