Learn how to create professional-looking clips without a budget to publicize your research, advertise conferences and document departmental events

Attend this one-day hands-on workshop to gain a basic understanding of visual storytelling and useful production techniques that will allow you to create short video clips with your mobile phone on a shoestring budget.
After covering some theoretical foundations of visual narration and an overview of relevant legal frameworks, you will plan the production of a “science video” - getting to know techniques for developing a good storyline, producing and editing digital video. 

Learning Goals
-Create a compelling storyline and choose a visual narrative for a research topic of your choice.
-Conceive, write, plan, shoot and edit a short clip (max 90s) with your mobile phone camera.
-Understanding basic techniques of visual storytelling, video production and editing.
-Gaining an overview of legal frameworks and available resources.

Trainer 
Dr. Felix Seyfarth is an experienced media producer and digital learning designer. He was founding director of the HSG Media Lab and Senior Fellow Digital Learning at the university's Teaching Innovation Lab from 2014 to 2018. He teaches Digital Storytelling for BA and MA students in the Contextual Studies program.

Prerequisites
No prerequisites, the workshop is designed for beginners and does not presuppose any technical know-how. We will concentrate on effective techniques of visual storytelling, that could also be used for conference posters and presentations. Bring your mobile phone with a fully charged battery and a charging cable as well as a laptop or tablet.

Target  audience
PhD students and Post-Docs seeking to acquire basic skills in digital video production and visual storytelling, especially for the use of audiovisual media in social media. (max. 8 participants).
