Un-Dress 2017: sustainable fashion on the catwalk

Sustainable fashion has nothing to do with "bland eco gear". This will be demonstrated by HSG students during the public cultural event, Un-Dress, a day devoted to fashion produced in a fair manner.

18 April 2017. Un-Dress will take place on Wednesday, 26 April, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The fashion show in St.Gallen’s Tonhalle will start at 8 p.m. The Un-Dress event was the result of a 2012 student initiative of the University of St.Gallen and works towards a responsible use of textiles, since clothes and fashion accessories should also be produced in a fair manner along the entire value-creation chain. Un-Dress brings together students, people interested in fashion and representatives of the industry in the textile city of St.Gallen in order to create an awareness of sustainably produced fashion.

Workshops with experts from the textile industry

On the afternoon of 26 April 2017, participants will be able to exchange ideas with experts from the textile industry in small-scale workshops. Thus Dr. Alexis Malefakis, for instance, will talk about second-hand dealers in Africa. Malefakis is an ethnologist and the curator of the African Department of the Ethnographic Museum at the University of Zurich. In the workshop run by rrrevolve founder Sebastian Lanz, the entrepreneur will provide a glimpse of the daily business of a sustainably operating Swiss trading firm. Thomas Gfeller, founder and designer, will discuss the philosophy, products and value-creation processes of his sock and bow-tie brand, "Thomas Jakobson". In addition, the Swiss luxury firm Zimmerli will provide an insight into the success recipe of a sustainable Swiss producer. Participants of the total of five workshops will be invited to actively present their own ideas.

Fashion show and designer exhibition

The fashion show in the Tonhalle at 8 p.m. will constitute the concluding element of the Un-Dress 2017. Swiss and international labels such as Ann&Line, Rollerina and Sanikai will enable HSG students to present their latest collections on the catwalk. The former Miss Switzerland Linda Fäh will host the evening. Before and after the fashion show, visitors will have an opportunity to view the collections in a designer exhibition and to speak to representatives of the labels. Furthermore, selected pieces will be available in Globus Rösslitor St.Gallen for four weeks from 29 April.

Un-Dress 2017 is an event open to the general public. Tickets for the fashion show are available at Un-Dress and from Globus Rösslitor St.Gallen.
