Our employment conditions

As a public-sector employer, we are aware that we have special responsibilities.

Public-sector employer
According to the University of St.Gallen Act of 26 May 1988, the university is a public institution of the canton of St.Gallen that is an independent legal entity, with the right of self-administration. To our workforce, this means that their contracts of employment are not based on the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR), as is the case in the private sector. Their employment in the public sector is based on cantonal regulations, in particular the State Administrative Law, the canton of St.Gallen regulations on the civil service, insurance funds and working hours, plus the university’s own internal directives and regulations.

The aim of our personnel policy
We enable our employees to carry out their jobs with a focus on service, trust, efficiency and innovation. To achieve this goal, we employ and keep personnel who are committed and customer driven and also have excellent professional and social skills.
