Information on Ph.D. Studies

Ph.D. studies at the University of St.Gallen prepare you for an academic career or research-based occupation in an applied field.

To achieve this, you sharpen your vital methodological skills during the coursework and research stage and expand on them while your doctoral thesis.

Our four departments offer a total of five Ph.D. programmes.

  • Ph.D. in Management (PMA)
  • Ph.D. in Economics and Finance (PEF)
  • Ph.D. in International Affairs and Political Economy (DIA)
  • Ph.D. in Organization and Culture (DOK)
  • Ph.D. in Law (DLS)

Our university’s federal structure and division of competencies allow us to shape the content and progress of the programmes for our various departments and their doctoral students. Some programmes provide for different approaches that are more practice-oriented or more academic. Some are even divided into additional specialisations. For each programme we indicate which approach you can take.
