- Professor A. Mitchell Polinsky: Professor Polinsky is Josephine Scott Crocker Professor of Law and Economic at Stanford Law School. A pioneering American figure in the applications of economic theory to law, A. Mitchell Polinsky is a prolific scholar, producing work on the economic analysis of a wide variety of legal issues, from property to contract law to liability and punitive damages. He has written major articles on the economic efficiency of various forms of legal sanctions in achieving deterrence across a range of problems, including criminal law, contract, and tort disputes. Prof. Polinsky will take up the Max Schmidheiny Foundation Guestprofessorship at the University of St.Gallen in the spring semester 2011 and will give a lecture on the topic "Economic Analysis of Law: Market Failures and Their Corrections Through Contracts, Regulations, Litigation and Enforcement". - Workshop & Lecture Series in Law & Economics: The workshop and lecture series in law and economics is a joint seminar of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the University of Zurich and the University of St.Gallen. Several guest scholars in law and economics present their work in a lecture and/or discuss their ongoing research in a workshop. The course supervisors are Dr. Michael Waibel, Prof. Dr. Bruno S. Frey (University of Zürich), Prof. Dr. Alois Stutzer (University of Basel), Prof. Dr. Klaus Mathis (University of Luzern), as well as Prof. Dr. Stefan Bechtold and Prof. Dr. Gérard Hertig (ETH Zurich).
