Basic Research Fund
The Basic Research Fund primarily finances research projects by members of the teaching staff and academic institutes.
The following people are entitled to submit an application:
- Post-docs (but only for their own projects, not for other employees)
- Full-time lecturers
- Habilitated lecturers
- Professors
Support consists of covering the salary costs for the project employees, as well as contributions for further research costs.
The Basic Research Fund can finance the following types of project:

Post-doc funding
- Duration of funding: 36 months maximum
- Yearly: CHF 100,000 maximum
- Employment status: 75% maximum

Start-up funding for eligible third-party funding (SNSF, EU, KTI)
- Preparation of a subsequent application for project funding to the SNSF, EU or KTI
- Duration of funding: max. 12 months
- Several HSG applicants may also apply

Funding for “single projects”
- Duration of funding: 36 months maximum
- Funding amount: CHF 100,000 maximum (can be distributed over several years)

Funding for “collaborative projects”
- Several HSG applicants from different institutes, chairs, etc.
- Duration of funding: 36 months maximum
- Funding amount: CHF 300,000 maximum (can be distributed over several years)
- Funding amount per HSG applicant: CHF 100,000 maximum
