ABI/INFORM Complete comprises the databases ABI/INFORM Global, Dissertations & Theses, ABI/INFORM Dateline, ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry and Hoover's Company Records. Approximately 4,000 journal titles are recorded, mainly from the Anglo-American sector, but German titles are also included. Of these, approximately 2,950 titles are included as full-text versions. The Financial Times is available from 1996 on and The Wall Street Journal from 1984 on, also in full text versions. ABI/INFORM Complete offers more than 20,000 Anglo-American economics doctoral theses in full text, extensive information on some 40,000 companies worldwide, approximately 5,200 business cases, author profiles from the scientific world, and access to EIU Views Wires, a business intelligence service, which includes 75-100 new articles every day on developments in more than 180 countries.

Access China offers a range of market research reports for China, which provide detailed data and analyses, and range in size from 100 to 250 pages.  

Search in electronic publications of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM): journals, congressional reports, newsletters, reviews, special interest groups, etc.; access is to full texts, typically provided in PDF format.

This database provides information to the public on researchers, projects and publications of the University of St.Gallen. Our aim is to provide access to scientific literature produced by all departments of the University of St.Gallen.

This includes: Business Administration and Economics, Social Sciences, Humanities and Law. For legal reasons, the full text of the publication cannot always be provided.

A&HCI is an interdisciplinary database with articles from 1,144 journals on art and the humanities; in addition, 7,000 further selected articles from social and natural science journals are included. Information provided: bibliographic information with details of citations referenced in the publications.

AWP is the leading Swiss news agency for business information. It reports on current events in Switzerland and abroad, providing relevant facts and figures on companies, markets and industries. Over 1,000 companies in Switzerland are covered on a regular basis. Smaller Swiss companies (SMEs) are also observed closely. The news stories are available in German and French. To receive the necessary access information, you will have to authenticate.

Bankscope is a comprehensive, global database for searching and analysing banks. The database contains detailed financial information on more than 29.000 banks. Bankscope is updated daily.

Access: For accessing Bankscope you could either work with the interface developed by Bureau van Dijk (registration necessary) or you could use the interface provided by  Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS).  We provide further information on WRDS with our A to Z list.

This German online law library by the Beck publishing house contains the key commentary literature, manuals, nearly all of Beck’s journals including archives, extensive case law and legislation of the federal government and states. Additionally, the renowned Staudinger BGB Commentary is now also available in electronic form through Beck-Online. For accessing full functionality of all the services (storing documents in virtual folders, annotating documents etc.), you must register with the website.

Bepress publishes refereed e-journals from the fields of economics, politics, law and the STM sector. Each year, about 5 new e-journals are published. E-journals of Berkeley ElectronicPress are delivered through De Gruyter since the end of 2011.

Due to the fast peer-review process, the contributions are typically published in the journals after 10 weeks. This means that the e-journals can be more up-to-date and thus more relevant for research.

The database offers real-time prices, fundamental data, graphical applications, financial-analysis tools and news from their own news agency and other providers.

We have available 34 reference works from the Brockhaus and Duden publishing houses.

The Business Insights information service contains extensive industry reports generated by independent experts. The detailed reports are in PDF format.

The sectors reported on include: energy, consumer goods, finance, healthcare, human resources and technology. The service is supplemented by market research reports from Access Asia.

In August 2010 we upgraded Business Insights by adding 14 more sections (including Chemicals, Drug Delivery, Drug Discovery, Diagnostic Series, Medical Devices etc.). But you should keep in mind that these additional sections will not be updated any further.

For the BSP database, over 10,100 economics publications are evaluated regularly. The full texts of over 2,150 journals are provided, including more than 1,100 refereed titles. A limited number of books are also provided in full text. All aspects of the economic sciences are covered.

Business Source Premier also provides company information on around 10,000 of the largest companies in the world. The database also includes numerous Country Economic Reports from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), DRI-WEFA, ICON Group and Country Watch. The industry standard NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) is incorporated in the articles and can therefore be used as a search criterion.

CARMA is a non-profit institution of the School of Business of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the United States. The interdisciplinary focus is on research methods and research analysis in the social and organisational sciences. The University of St.Gallen has subscribed to the CARMA International Video Library Program. CARMA International Video Library Program contains all recorded videos and was specially developed for universities that are not located in the US or Canada. In addition to the complete and unlimited access to the video collection, a price reduction of 50 per cent is offered for the Research Methods Short Courses. The Consortium Webcast Program has not been licensed.

Via the CEPR database (Centre for Economic Policy Research), we provide access to more than 3,000 discussion papers. CEPR is an internationally recognised source for current research results in the area of economics. CEPR research is performed by over 700 researchers, who, however, retain their respective institutional base.

Our license includes two databases: 

China Academic Journal (CAJ) is the most comprehensive, full-text database of Chinese journals in the world. It contains more than 7,200 journals starting from 1915.

Century Journals Project (CJP) selects the most important academic journals published in China and digitizes all issues since their very first issue up till 1993 in an effort to expand the China Academic Journals Full-text Database. The earliest journal dates back to 1887.

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is a renowned source for theoretical and practical issues in international affairs. Since 1991, a wide range of research results have been published; these include working papers from university institutes, NGO publications, project results financed by foundations, conference reports, books and journal articles.

An interactive atlas makes it possible to quickly access country information (from EIU).The database is updated monthly.

The Hague Academy Collected Courses Online (HACCO) database contains course materials in the field of international law starting in 1923 in full text in English or French. Each course is an analysis of the theoretical and practical aspects of the topic covered. This includes the fields of legislation and case law, tradition-based justice and jurisprudence. Please note: the Quick Search includes all of the publisher’s online products, but we only have access to HACCO. You can limit your search to the licensed collection in the Advanced Search.

The portal of the Erich-Schmit-Verlag, with material on management and supervisory tasks in companies and administrations. It covers all compliance areas, such as risk management, data security, IT compliance, corporate governance, anti-fraud management and internal auditing.

In addition to current short news updates and relevant links, the portal includes the contents of the newspapers ZRFC, ZCG and ZIR and the full texts of over 100 e-books related to compliance topics.

Compustat Global is an integrated global database with active and inactive fundamental and market data on over 91000 global securities. Our subscription includes:
Compustat North America and the historical package for North America, i.e. additional annual data history back to 1950.
Compustat Global is delivered through the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) platform. Please read carefully the accompanying information on how to use and access WRDS.

This database enables you to search more than 300 full-text publications in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybernetics, information systems, automation and software. Additional titles are included as references.

CorpfinWorldwide is an extensive full-text database and search engine for corporate financial transactions that take place in Europe (including the UK) and the US. The database is updated daily, goes back to 1993 and covers 28 different types of deals.

Detailed information on deals with a value of over £ 500,000 (> US$ 750,000 ) is provided. The information is acquired first-hand from the companies and advisors concerned; other acknowledged sources are added.

CRSP(Center for Research in Security Prices) maintains the most comprehensive and most accurate information for securities listed on the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ exchanges. Our subscription contains three databases:

- CRSP 1925 US Stock (distributed annually)

- CRSP 1925 Indices (distributed annually)

- CRSP US Mutual Fund Database (distributed quarterly).

Access is provided through Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS).

This data service offers:
Stock prices, market capitalisation, dividends, etc. for approximately 75,000 stock prices in the entire world, including industrialised and developing countries. Over 400,000 international macroeconomic time series with indicators for 215 countries. Foreign exchange rates for 45 countries, over 2,000 interest rates. Sources include securities exchanges, government institutions (central banks, etc.) and international organisations such as the OECD and the IMF. Modules: worldscope; annuity service; economic service; stock service; service for futures.

DigiZeitschriften is an electronic archive of key German scientific journals. A focus is placed on journals with a long tradition.

The search function and tables of contents are freely available, but full texts typically require a licence. The Library of the University of St.Gallen has subscribed to DigiZeitschriften.

The database covers approximately 99% of American doctoral theses since 1861 and Canadian doctoral theses. In addition, British doctoral theses since January 1988 are documented. Doctoral theses from over 1,000 universities and colleges worldwide can also be found.

The bibliographical information on doctoral theses since July 1980 is supplemented by an abstract of approximately 350 words, written by the author. Master’s theses from 1988 include a 150-word abstract. For doctoral theses from 1997 on, a 24-page preview is often available in PDF format. The information is updated monthly.

We have licensed several databases from EBSCOhost relevant to different subject areas. They cover a wide range of academic disciplines: business administration and economics, social sciences, information science and humanities.

EBSCO is the world’s largest journal subscription agency, offering its customers access to an extensive journal and article database, including abstracts and in some cases full text of electronic journals.

EconLit records economics publications since 1969 and is prepared by the American Economic Association. In total, approximately 750 important journals are evaluated as well as more than 200 collected works (since 1984) and doctoral theses (since 1987). In addition monographs are recorded, for most of which abstracts are available.

English articles are recorded or those that have an English abstract. In addition, the full texts of the book reviews published in the JEL are included as well as the Cambridge University Press database Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics. The working papers of the RePEc projects are also taken into account. The content index is based on the classification of the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL classification).

EconLit covers the disciplines of economics, economic geography, economic history, economic policy, economic theory and some business literature. The focus of the content is on English-language literature and publications on economics.

Economists Online (EO) showcases some of the world's leading institutions, their scholars and their academic publications and research data. The database contains more than 900,000 bibliographical entries, many of which can be accessed with full text links in Open Access, and links the contents of Economists Online with those of the RePEc Archive. This new information service for economists is operated by the Nereus consortium and co-funded by the European Union.

EDIS offers access to electronic doctoral theses of the University of St.Gallen. However, not all doctoral theses are available in electronic form. In the Library catalogue, all doctoral theses are recorded.

Search in electronic publications of the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE): journals and conference reports, including access to full texts, typically provided in PDF format.

In this database, you can search through all Master's theses with a pass grade (4.0 and better) and Bachelor's theses with grades 5.5, 5.75 and 6.0. The database is only accessible to members of the University of St.Gallen. You start EDOK by entering your username (first name last name) and your HSG password.

Contains the full text of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the International Accounting Standards (IAS). Commentary, interpretation and proposals for revisions of selected IFRS/IAS sections; working papers with proposals for accounting for small and medium sized firms; constitution of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC).

You have access to up-to-date, worldwide country information. Three services are available: Country Commerce (background information on 58 countries), Country Profiles and Country Reports (22 Latin American countries are covered extensively).

This database includes full texts from over 200 leading management journals and also offers special extras (e.g. case studies, interviews, reviews) for education and research.

The key topics of management research are covered, in particular strategy, leadership, marketing and human resources, library management, information management, and knowledge management. More than 15 full-text journals from the area Engineering & Materials Science are also included. Depending on the title, the full text is available going back to 1988.

The online edition of the most comprehensive English-language general encyclopaedia offers access to the complete text of the current 32-volume print edition (2007) and the update (print edition 2010) of the 75,000 articles from 4,900 authors and 10,500 contributions from the series Britannica Books of the Year. Since 1 October 2004, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities, has been providing all data that were previously contained in the fee-based databases NewCronos, Comext and Europroms free of charge in the Internet. All data and PDF publications of Eurostat have thus been available free of charge since autumn 2004.

The EZB is our database, our shop window for electronic journals. We strongly recommend using the EZB search function to look for e-journals. The EZB is a service that aims to further the effective use of scientific full-text journals in the Internet. With the help of the EZB you can find out whether a journal is available in electronic form, and whether the University Library at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) subscribes to the journal. The Electronic Journal Library is supported and developed by the University of Regensburg Library.

News and business information from over 9,000 publications in 22 languages. Company reports, websites, news agencies, etc. are evaluated. Also contains German and international newspapers. The information comes, among others, l from Reuters and DowJones.

The research database of the renowned market research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan (founded in 1961 in New York) provides an extensive source of high-quality industry and market analyses. New trends and technologies are the main focus.

To sign-in, you can either use your personal data (first name, last name, e-mail address at the University of St.Gallen) or anonymous information (first name: * / last name: * / email: frost@unisg.ch). Please exit the Frost & Sullivan database using the sign-out button.

Offers valuable background knowledge and current information on the information technology sector. Research reports and analyses inform and simplify decision-making processes. An HSG password is required for access.

This database provides access to statistical data from 136 countries that report their public and publicly covered debts to the debt reporting system of the World Bank. The database includes information on the topics of development finance, external debt and financial flows. Over 200 indicators are recorded in time series from 1970, including projections up to 2017 (depending on the available data). Search by country, content and year.

To receive the summaries, you must register. You will receive the desired summary as a PDF document shortly.

The service offers competent and comprehensible five-page summaries on over 5,000 of the best business books. Each year, roughly 500 new abstracts are added. The following topics are covered: leadership, strategy, human resources, finances, sales, marketing, careers and personal development. The German interface (DE) includes the "Klassiker-Bibliothek" as well.

GreenFILE offers a wide range of information on ecology and environmental protection for: 

• private persons, e.g. for installation of solar collectors or for recycling 
• For companies, e.g. for ecological agriculture, hybrid cars, waste disposal or environmental protection laws.

The approximately 300,000 data records reach back 35 years and provide information starting with the first issue of journals such as:

HeinOnline offers access to a wide range of information relevant to studies in law and political sciences, including historical archives. Our subscription covers these libraries:

• Law Journal Library - more than 1'500 academic journals (individual journal titles can also be found via the electronic journals library EZB)

• Legal Classics - more than 2,000 works from some of the greatest legal minds in history

A journal and article database; access to full text of electronic journals of the Henry Stewart publishing house. The journals cover the following topics: management, finance, healthcare, life sciences and urban renewal.

The Historical Abstracts database is one of the most important reference sources for the study of history. It lists journal articles, articles from collections, monographs and doctoral theses on the history of all countries (except for USA and Canada) from 1450 to the present. Abstracts are included for all titles. The selection of titles is international, but the focus is on literature in European languages.

Important Hoppenstedt databases can be found in LexisNexis. You have access to financial data, corporate structures and company profiles of German companies.

Access via LexisNexis:
start Lexis/Nexis and search in the source directory for Hoppenstedt (blue search window on the right). You will receive a list of all available Hoppenstedt databases. Lexis/Nexis provides access to multiple Hoppenstedt databases (finances, corporate structures).

The I/B/E/S Detail History EPS database contains earnings estimates (EPS) from banks and individual analysts. The estimates are provided for American companies (SEPSUS) and international companies (HSEPSINT). In addition, in the second database – I/B/E/S History non-EPS – you can find additional estimate indicators such as EBITDA, book value per share, cash flow, sales, dividends per share, etc. The monthly update covers all data.

IBSS consists of the following four bibliographies: 

• International bibliography of economics

Monographs, articles and reviews from over 100 countries are listed. Over 2,700 newspapers are evaluated regularly. The data reach back to 1951.

This database provides access to information on 186 countries in the Country Intelligence section. The service includes 5-year forecasts, extensive country analyses, risk assessments and current analysis of economic and political events. In addition, extensive analyses (company and country reports) are provided for the automotive, energy, healthcare and pharmaceutical and telecom sectors.

INFODATA is a literature database for IT and associated areas. It is bilingual (German/English), covers roughly 103,000 entries, increasing every year by 3,000. It is updated monthly. The base is provided by 240 periodicals and a collection of roughly 30,000 monographs. The principal fields of the database are: specialised information, documentation, information retrieval, information brokering, information management, information systems, computer linguistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, new media and electronic publishing.

The producer of the INFODATA database is the Informationszentrum für Informationswissenschaft und -praxis (IZ) at the Fachhochschule Potsdam.

Access:

After submitting the search query, the guest user must enter gast as username and gast as password. Guest users can search the entire INFODATA database without limitation down to the level of the document titles; display of the document is limited, however (source and summary are not shown in the guest mode).
In guest mode, it is possible to order documents online for a fee.
The INFODATA thesaurus is also freely available.

An extensive reference work for universities, governmental and independent non-profit research institutions in over 150 countries.

Investment Arbitration Reporter is an electronic news service tracking cross-border arbitrations between foreign investors and their host governments. These arbitrations are often confidential in nature, but may have major financial, legal and policy impacts. Investment Arbitration Reporter specializes in tracking and chronicling such arbitrations and can help to stay abreast of the latest lawsuits and policy developments related to nationalizations, privatizations and other regulatory disputes.

You have the option to subscribe to the IA Reporter Newsletter. To do so, please send your request to subscribe@iareporter.com - the request has to be sent from your university e-mail account ending with either @unisg.ch or @student.unisg.ch in order to be validated.

Additionally, you have the possibility to access a searchable database of all past content, comprising hundreds of news and analysis articles. Though, Investment Arbitration Reporter is not a full database of all investment arbitration awards, but it does contribute to the freely available Investment Treaty Arbitration database provided by the University of Victoria.

This database includes calculated values for six ICRG variables of political risks: corruption in government, rule of law, bureaucratic quality, ethnic tensions, repudiation of contracts by government and risk of expropriation. The data are based on data from the International Country Risk Guide (ICRG). An HSG password is required for access.

An international science database with over 8 million time series from the following institutions: EUROSTAT, OECD, IMF, UNIDO, CITI-CORP, Deutsche Bundesbank, Statistisches Bundesamt, Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung. The data is updated annually.

IvyDB US Options database is a well-known database for historical and detailed options information. The database was specifically designed for empirical options-related research. The database goes back to January 1996.

IvyDB can be accessed through the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) interface.

Evaluation of scientific journals according to the criteria of the Institute for Scientific Information (for example, impact factor).
Online access is divided into: 

• JCR Science Edition (approximately 6,500 journals evaluated) 
• JCR Social Sciences Edition (approximately 2,000 journals evaluated)

The following questions can be answered using the JCR: 

• How often was a certain journal cited? 
• Which journal cited a specific journal? 
• How quickly and how long after its appearance was a journal cited? 
• Which other journals were cited by a specific journal?

The Journal Impact Factor specifies the average citation rate that the articles of a journal have achieved in a certain year: 

• The Journal Impact Factor is a measure of the entire journal; it is not representative of individual articles or authors 
• Indicator of the relative importance of a journal within a given field.

A journal archive. Contains the full texts of electronic and digitalised journals.

The most current years are not accessible via JSTOR; the journals are recorded from their first year up to a so-called moving wall (depending on the title, 2-5 years before the current year). The journals are divided into individual subject departments.

Extensive, traditional reference source for all the most important literary works of all time periods, regions and cultures worldwide.

Kindler, in the third, completely revised edition of 2009, published by Heinz Ludwig Arnold, covers over 21,500 entries on the most important works that have had a lasting impact on the history of culture, from the first written records of humanity to the present, representing 13,000 works of roughly 8,000 authors, 500 anonymous works and 150 materials. The new edition has been expanded in particular to include South/South-East Asian, Indian, African and East European literature and has been opened up for major works of nonfiction in numerous fields. Roughly 8,000 biograms provide brief biographical information on the authors. (As at: May 2009)

KLFG is the standard reference work for contemporary world literature. More than 650 contributions introduce us to the life and work of outstanding authors of the 20th and 21st century. Extended bibliographies list all of the original editions, translations into German, as well as important secondary literature. The database is complemented by introductions into the literature of specific countries.  

KLG provides biographical and critical information about approximately 700 post-1945 German authors. Entries include short biographies, prizes won, essay on the author and interviews, as well as bibliographies of the author's works and of secondary resources.

Kluwer Arbitration is one of the leading resources worldwide in the field of international arbitration. It contains journals, monographs, commentaries, law sources and a database of decisions containing, among other things, more than 200 ICC Awards. The database was developed in co-operation with the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA). These institutions also continuously produce new content that is entered into the database.

The focus is on publications from Germany, but titles from Austria and Switzerland are also included. In cooperation with the company njb (neue juristische Bücher), monographs are also included.

LISTA (Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts) is a free database from EBSCO on librarianship and computer science. Over 600 journals, books and reports worldwide are included (only index and abstracts), and some of the backfiles go all the way back to the 60s.

With the LexisNexis search button persons, an extensive collection of biographical databases becomes available. This provides searchable biographies of important people from various fields, such as: economics (Europe), politics, science, art, entertainment and sports.

The Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law MPEPIL is an extensive work on international law that describes the most current developments, not just from a European perspective. The presentation reflects a global view of international law and international case law, taking regional contexts into account. The individual articles are peer-reviewed by the MPEPIL Advisory Board, which is made up of legal experts.

The MLA International Bibliography is the most important bibliography in the fields of literature, linguistics (including art and sign languages) and folklore of all modern areas of philology. The following subjects are included: language, literature, linguistics, folklore, English/American studies, German studies, classical philology, Oriental studies/other languages, Romance languages and literature and Slavic studies. This is supplemented by entries relating to a certain number of other humanities subjects.

In addition to around 4,400 journals (refer to the MLA Directory of Periodicals), a representative selection of collective writings, series, conference reports, commemorative publications, reference works, references to Dissertation abstracts and, to a lesser extent, monographs, are constantly evaluated for this bibliography of secondary literature. Primary sources (except critical editions) and reviews (except longer review articles) are not included.

The MLA International Bibliography covers the time period from 1926 on and contains more than 2 million bibliographical references. Over 66,000 citations are added every year. Since April 2008, the MLA International Bibliography also contains abstracts, presently some 9,000 abstracts from the PMLA, Project Muse, JSTOR and German Quarterly.

The database is produced by the Modern Language Association (MLA).

Part I: The Making of the Modern World (1450-1850)
An extensive collection of economic literature from the second half of the 15th century to the middle of the 19th century; the collection is of particular importance for research on early economic, political and social history. The source edition combines the strengths of two established collections: Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature of the University of London and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration's Kress Library of Business and Economics.

The Making of the Modern World includes the full text of more than 61,000 books, which appeared between 1460 and 1850, as well as 466 series and individual journals from before 1906, almost 12 million pages in all.

Part II: The Making of the Modern World (1851-1914)
Part II consists of approx. 1.2 million pages (approx. 5000 titles) from key collections of economic literature including:

The documents are either written in English or have a summary in English.

The Neue Zürcher Zeitung is the leading daily newspaper in Switzerland, with detailed reporting from Bern and other regions.

A monolingual dictionary of the French language with roughly 60,000 key words, 300,000 meanings, 185,000 constructions and collocations, 35,000 references from over 1,200 authors and 180,000 references to synonyms, antonyms and homonyms. OECD iLibrary is the portal of the online publications of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The Official Bulletin of the Federal Assembly provides the public with access to the debates of the National Council of Switzerland and the Swiss Council of States. Every speech is recorded verbatim in the original language. In addition, the Official Gazette includes all resolutions and petitions as well as the written reports presented to the two councils.

This information is made available in electronic form starting with the Winter Session 1995 (45th session) by the Parliamentary Services. The minutes of the debates from 1891 to 1995 are presented by the Swiss Federal Archives.

A database with over 20,000 books, accessible online and primarily in English.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography covers over 57,000 biographies of persons who have shaped all aspects of the history of Great Britain; portraits are included for one-fifth of the subjects. Living persons are not included. The individual entries also contain references to additional literature. The time period covered reaches back to the 4th century B.C..

The database also contains the complete text of the Dictionary of National Bibliography, published since 1885, including all supplements (if available, they can be opened using the link DNB archive at the corresponding entry to the person).

The Themes section supplements the biographical entries with the categories:

ORIL sees itself as a reference portal for all aspects of case law of national and international courts in the area of international law. All published rulings are available in their full-text and supplemented with commentaries. The database consists of the following five modules:

The PAIS International database contains references to more than 550,000 journal articles, books, governmental documents, statistical directories, research and conference reports. The subjects covered include in particular: international politics and international affairs and international law. Newspapers and newsletters are not evaluated. PAIS covers publications from over 120 countries. In addition to the English documents, publications appearing in French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish are indexed.

You can use PaperC to search and read an increasing number of German and English-language specialist books in full text, free of charge. The user need only pay a fee per page if he or she wishes to download pages, edit them online or print them. PaperC was developed together with the MCM Institute of the University of St.Gallen.

This database covers articles, monographs, and research reports that have appeared since 1940 (USA) or 1967 (other countries) for all subject areas of philosophy, such as ethics, aesthetics, epistemology, logic and metaphysics, history of philosophy, political philosophy, legal philosophy and others; typically with short summaries (abstracts).

Political Science Complete (PSC) is an internationally focused database in the field of political science. Topics covered include: Political theory, Comparative politics, International relations, Law and legislation,  Humanitarian issues and aspects of Globalisation. PSC provides access to over 2.100 scientific journals and contains full text for more than 480 journals. It also features more than 300 e-books and over 36.000 full-text conference papers including those of the American Political Science Association.

This database contains full text of 29 journals. Some journals go back more than 20 years and the archive includes over 6,700 articles. The following subject areas are covered: general political science, American politics, political sociology, comparative political science, policy studies, political communications research, peace and conflict studies, political theory/philosophy, international affairs and countries studies.

Project Gutenberg was started in 1971. It collects literary texts in English, archives them electronically and makes them available to the public via the Internet. The archive can be sorted alphabetically by title or author and can also be searched for key words using a search engine. It contains more than 30,000 freely accessible e-books and texts.

This e-book collection contains novels, stories, novellas, dramas and poems in German by over 450 authors from antiquity to the 20th century. Biographical information is also provided for each author.

"Project MUSE - Standard Collection" is an electronic full-text platform providing access to over 300 scholarly journals published by leading anglo-american university presses and scholarly societies. It covers almost all research needs and aspects of the humanities and the social sciences. This includes e.g. literature and literary criticism, history, visual and performing arts, cultural studies, political science, women's and gender studies. Most articles are available in both HTML and PDF.

PsycARTICLES is the full-text journal database of the American Psychological Association (APA). This online database contains more than 147,000 contributions from 71 journals (peer reviewed) of the APA and other leading publishing houses/organisations. The contributions cover the period from 1894 to the present. The information is updated weekly. PsycARTICLES covers contributions from all areas of psychology, including basic research.

In this database, access to over 575 journals is provided in full text. The following areas of content are covered: psychology, psychiatry and related fields in the social and behavioural sciences.

PsycINFO (previously: PsycLIT) is produced by the American Psychological Association (APA) and records bibliographically independent as well as components of bibliographically independent works (journal articles, books, book chapters, book meetings, monographs, research reports, case studies, etc.) on psychology. Publications in the areas of psychiatry, sociology, educational sciences, anthropology, pharmacology, physiology, criminology and linguistics are taken into account if they are of interest for psychology. Some 2,000 journals are recorded. Overall, PsycINFO provides around 60,000 new entries per year with weekly updates.

PSYNDEX: Literature and Audiovisual Media with PSYNDEX Tests is the most comprehensive abstract database of psychological literature, audiovisual media, intervention programmes, and tests from the German-speaking countries.

PSYNDEX contains two database segments: PSYNDEX Literature and Audiovisual Media with records of psychological publications from authors in the German-speaking countries, audiovisual media relevant for further education, and descriptions of intervention programmes; PSYNDEX Tests with extensive descriptions of tests in use in the German-speaking countries.

This database provides information on federal, cantonal, and communal agencies, associations, foundations and other institutions of a political, scientific, social and cultural nature.

A collection of 75 regional economic journals from the USA. The literature references consist in part of abstracts and in part of full-text articles.

RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) is a joint initiative of economists from 44 countries, consisting of discussion papers (grey literature), journal articles and economic software tools. A large proportion is freely accessible or contains links to full texts. In addition, there is information about some 5,000 authors (contact address, publication directories) and 8,000 institutions (research institutes, faculties, etc.). The RePEc data is searchable via various search options, including IDEAS (entire collection), WoPEc (discussion papers in full text), EDIRC (institutions) and BibEc (bibliography of the not freely accessible discussion papers). RePEc can also be accessed through the Economists Online portal.

Through the ResearchNow portal, you have access to the inventory of the Berkley Electronic Press. Bepress publishes some 31 refereed e-journals from the fields of economics, politics, law and the STM sector.

Each year, about 5 new e-journals are published. Due to the fast peer-review process, the contributions are typically published in the journals 10 weeks after submission. This means that the e-journals can be more up-to-date and thus more relevant for research.

Editions of journals that are not subscribed to have a small white icon; subscribed, accessible titles are identified by a green icon. A journal database with more than 3.45 million title entries, covering all areas of the social sciences, including the related scientifically oriented disciplines of social medicine and psychology; it evaluates approximately 2,500 social science journals from over 50 disciplines and contains all relevant articles from another 3,300 medical and scientific periodicals; type of information: bibliographical details with cited sources in the referenced publications. Statista is the leading portal for statistical sources and databases in Germany. The user will find statistical data from more than 1'000 sources for 20 different industries and sectors.

The BFS online service provides access to the Statistisches Lexikon der Schweiz. It summarises the most important statistics for the country on population, society, government, the economy and the environment. It not only serves as a reference work, but, with its overview essays, also provides a comprehensive picture of the social and economic situation in Switzerland.

The online statistics database for Switzerland, STAT-TAB, is a service of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (BFS). The database is available online and allows users to access official data at their workstation.

STAT-TAB presents results of various statistical surveys in a modern and user-friendly application. The data are stored in multidimensional data sets, also known as data cubes. From them the desired data can be extracted using interactive queries. The data can also processed further locally.

A reference database for Swiss company profiles, directors, managers and politicians, owners/shareholders and share data. It contains the Swiss business registry, the directory of boards of directors and the Swiss Who Owns Whom.

Older issues (on CD-ROM) are available in the library and can be borrowed.

After registration (with Internet Explorer 8 or higher), staff and students of the University of St. Gallen can connect with Swisslex, the most comprehensive legal database for Switzerland, providing them with access to more than 400'000 full text documents. Among the offerings are:

This database lists the worldwide deliverable journals, series, annual magazines and newspapers (international). No article contents are included, just the names of publications.

WDI online contains statistical data for more than 850 development indicators and time series from 1960 on for more than 200 countries and 18 country groups. The data cover socio-economic indicators and information on natural resources and the environment.

Data selection is easy to handle and the results can be adapted to various presentation purposes. These features, and the output options in standard format such as Excel, make WDI Online a very useful tool when searching for data on developing countries.

Weblaw Campus offers access to legal documents in full text and provides specialist working instruments.

An advantage of the Web of Science over solely specialist databases (article databases) is its interdisciplinary nature, the wide range of subjects, including arts, humanities, social sciences, medicine, natural sciences and technology.

Approximately 9,200 scientific journals with 37 million articles in all subject areas are evaluated.

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is a comprehensive, web-based, data research service used by academic, government and non-profit institutions around the world. WRDS handles all data management and provides the user with one location to access a variety of research databases through a common interface. Use of the WRDS services is for academic and non-commercial research purposes only.
Our subscription comprises the following databases:
- Bankscope (Bureau von Dijk)
- Compustat Global (Capital IQ)
- Compustat North America, incl. Historical Package (Capital IQ) 
- CRSP incl. Stock, Indices, Mutual Fund (Center for Research in Security Prices)
- Ivy DB (OptionMetrics)

Subscribers have access to additional databases at no charge (e.g. CBOE Indexes, Penn World Tables, TRACE etc.).

Access Pass: Internet-based access is supported. When logging into WRDS, users will be asked to enter an email account with our university's domain (e.g. felix.meier@unisg.ch or max.meier@student.unisg.ch). WRDS will then send an email message to that email account to verify that the account is valid. This email will contain an Access Pass link which the user can click on to get direct access into WRDS. This link is valid for three days.

New with Blackwell Synergy HSS Collection: as a member of the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries, we can provide access to the collection of over 300 electronic journals. In terms of content, a broad range of subject matters is covered. Typically, the information is available electronically from 1996 on.

An extensive German-language database for economics and social sciences. Some 600 e-books from various business disciplines and from the areas of economics and social sciences are available.

In the new Wiso website, the contents are presented by type of media. In addition to the e-books, you can also find the following:

IMD's World Competitiveness Online provides online access to the data of the World Competitiveness Yearbook. The yearbook produces country analyses and ranks the individual countries in the areas of: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure.

The services are completed by a well-structured link list on a wide range of topics related to the WTO.

The database consists of the bibliographies Political science abstracts (1975-2000) and ABC POL SCI (1984-2000).

Articles and reviews from some 1,500 international journals on political science and related fields, such as administrative science, international affairs and law, are recorded. In addition, monographs and doctoral theses are taken into account to a lesser degree.

Included in the records of the journal articles is a short table of contents, and since 2001, often the original annotations. The database evaluates around 80% of literature from Western Europe and North America.

This database contains the texts of the agreements that were concluded in the Uruguay Round in December 1993. Also included are decisions made at the time or at the meeting of ministers in Marrakesh in April 1994.

YWCCT is a companion volume to YWES and provides bibliographical information on the areas of critical and cultural theory. In addition, important debates and issues relating to a broad social and humanistic sphere are listed.

To the extent that the field of cultural studies expands, the scope and breadth of YWCCT will also increase.

YWES is an important specialist bibliography for works that are relevant for English language and literature studies and have appeared in the past year. As a rule, all articles going back to 1996 are available online with our licence.

A large monolingual Italian dictionary, updated annually and with 140,000 key words, 375,000 meanings, 43,500 idiomatic phrases, 71,500 etymologies, 11,000 synonyms and antonyms and 95,000 date references. It documents the Italian vocabulary, from everyday language to literary language to modern terminology in important specialist fields.
