A wide range of leisure activities
St.Gallen is part of a region where contrasts make for an extremely wide range of leisure activities. The banks of Lake Constance have plenty to offer with open-air swimming areas and water sports. The rural surroundings of St.Gallen are a wonderful area for hiking and cycling.

A historical town
The town itself is shaped by 1400 years of history. The town was founded by the itinerant monk Gallus, after whom the town is named, who set up a hermitage in 612 near today's cathedral.

You will encounter the past wherever you go if you take a stroll through the historical, old part of the town: the world-famous bow windows, the historical alleyways with their centuries-old buildings and the magnificent baroque cathedral. The cathedral was built between 1755 and 1767 and lies at the core of the Abbey district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
