Admission to the MIA programme
The Master of Arts in International Affairs and Governance (MIA) is a consecutive, interdisciplinary programme. It is offered in German and English.
You are eligible for admission to the MIA Master's programme if you hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related major or university Master’s degree in a different major.
Special admission criteria
If English is not your native language, you must provide evidence of sufficient English proficiency before the corresponding deadline in order to be considered for admission to this Master's programme. You can begin the Master's programme in either the Fall or Spring Semester.
Documents required of external applicants
Letter of motivation: Please include a letter of motivation with your application materials, including a statement
(PDF - 92KB) of no more than two pages in which you describe your personal reasons for studying in the Master's programme.
- Letter of reference from academic persons: Please include two short letters of recommendation from academic persons.
Procedure: Enter your name in the instructions and pass these on to the person writing the reference. The letters of reference are to be returned to the applicants in sealed envelopes. The person who wrote the letter is to sign their name over the seal. These are to be submitted with the rest of the application materials.Letter of motivation: Please include a letter of motivation with your application materials, including a of no more than two pages in which you describe your personal reasons for studying in the Master's programme.
Admission of foreign students
Certain restrictions apply for the admission of foreign students. Please observe the admission criteria for foreign applicants.
Supplementary work from the Bachelor’s level can be required. Crediting of previously completed, equivalent work is possible (course descriptions):

Every academic year one highly talented student of the Master's programme International Affairs and Governance (MIA) is awarded a grant offered by the "Starr International Foundation Grant Fund".
