Admission to the Business Journalism degree course

The Certificate in Business Journalism (LWJ) programme is taught in German. Students can only begin their studies in the Fall Semester.

Admission criteria
For admission to the Business journalism programme at the University of St.Gallen, the following admission criteria must be met:

  • Students must currently be studying at the Master’s Level or 
  • already hold an academic degree at the Master’s or Licentiate Level.
  • Students of the University of St.Gallen who are enrolled in a Master’s programme in Law may be admitted under certain conditions (see No. 6).
  • Students who are enrolled at other universities will not be admitted.

Special conditions of admission
The course is limited to a maximum of 30 participants per year. The programme administration will select participants on the basis of the documents they submit. The admission decision is made in mid-July after the HSG admission test. Applicants will be notified with by letter from the programme administration.

The course is taught in German. Students may only begin in the Fall Semester.

Admission of foreign students
Please observe the special admission criteria for prospective students of foreign nationality.

Dates
The enrolment deadline for beginning the degree course in the Fall Semester is 30 April. All applicants must meet this deadline, without exception, even if they are already enrolled at the HSG. The HSG enrolment extension is not open for admission to the course.

Documents to be submitted
The following documents must be submitted together with the application form: 

  • Curriculum vitae (1 page) 
  • Letter of motivation (1 page) 
  • Current grade transcript: for HSG students a Bachelor’s grade transcript from the service portal or a Bachelor’s Diploma Supplement; for external applicants a copy of the grade transcript required for enrolling in the degree course. Grade transcripts from the Master’s degree course will not be accepted.

The registration form and documents must be received by or submitted to the Office of Students’ Affairs by 30 April. External applicants are asked to include the documents from the online enrolment for the degree course.
Please enrol for the second term using the service portal when you enrol for your regular degree course.

Supplementary work for law students
Students or graduates in Law degree courses are subject to the admission criteria for MLS graduates to the additional course in Business Journalism.
