Students spend one year at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris and one year at the University of St.Gallen. The close cooperation between the two institutions and the mutual recognition of coursework ensures students receive a high-quality education. Students also receive outstanding preparation for an international career by participating in two programmes with significantly different cultural backgrounds.

Student testimonial:

Selma Merdan, Master in International Affairs and Governance
Double Degree Programme of the University of St.Gallen with Sciences Po Paris

“The University of St.Gallen (HSG) offers Master’s students in International Affairs and Governance the opportunity to participate in a double degree programme with Sciences Po Paris. After one year of studies at the Master’s Level in St.Gallen, I am now studying in for two semesters in the heart of Paris, majoring in International Public Management.

Sciences Po is known for its excellent international reputation, which attracts well-known figures from politics and business to teach there. As an example, my course “Comparative Diplomatic Practices” is taught by a former diplomat and chief of protocol of the French president. This is one of the reasons why Sciences Po attracts numerous international students from around the world.

My new fellow students bring with them other cultural experiences and professional backgrounds, and at the end of the day I may well have talked with them in four different languages. In particular the French language and the differences in the educational culture were a challenge during the first months. During breaks I am spoiled for choice in the cosmopolitan city of Paris – the options are seemingly infinite and many tourist attractions, such as the Louvre or Notre-Dame de Paris can be easily reached on foot from Sciences Po.

The intercultural environment at Sciences Po and the interdisciplinary, generalist and practice-oriented education at the HSG are a perfect fit. The double degree programme is an exciting and highly educational experience that I would not want to miss. It provides excellent preparation for my career, which I intend to start in an international environment.”
