The Bachelor’s Level

Once you have passed the Assessment Level, a new study phase begins: the Bachelor's Level. At this level you have more freedom to design your own studies.

A couple of students at the campus of the University of St.Gallen.

Of course, this also means more personal responsibility, for example, systematically designing your degree course or while working on your Bachelor’s thesis.

Free choice
You have nearly unlimited range of electives and choices in Contextual Studies. By the same token, you can also choose from the special elective courses or compulsory courses of other majors, as well as from other universities/academies as part of an exchange programme.

Individual study planning
Instead of fixed semesters or examination blocks, we have a system of lectures and seminars that run each semester. You can freely determine the order (we merely give recommendations for each semester) and pace.

International exchange
The semester courses and ECTS compliance enable you to take part in an exchange programme.

Campus credits
Campus credits are awarded for outstanding student achievements in the interest of the university as a whole. These projects range from leading roles in the Student Council to the organisation of symposia, through to involvement in the student newspaper, theatre or radio. A maximum of 16 “ungraded” credits can be applied.

Practice credits (only for Major in International Affairs (BIA))
Practice credits are awarded for practical activities that are closely related to the thematic focus of the major. In addition to special internships, this could be projects in political agencies, NGOs and other institutions as well as other qualified activities in politics, economy and law.
