Freemover

Even if you are studying at a university outside our partner network, you can participate in a guest semester in St.Gallen as a Freemover.

Requirements for an application as a Freemover

  • Applicants must have a school leaving certificate recognized by the HSG.
  • Applicants must be officially enrolled in a degree programme at a university outside our partner network.
  • Applications for the Freemover programme are unfortunately not accepted from students at universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) or from Ph.D. students.
  • Bachelor-level: to be accepted as Freemover at this level, applicants must provide evidence of at least 80 completed ECTS credits at the time of application. These credits must be transferable to a HSG degree course.
  • Master-level: applications will not be considered from students who have not yet completed at least one semester in the Master degree programme at their home university.
  • Freemover applicants are not required to take an admission exam.

Costs
If you are accepted as a Freemover, you will need to pay tuition fees in St.Gallen. An invoice will be sent to you before the semester begins. Freemover students are not required to pay enrolment and processing fees.

As a Freemover, you are not eligible for an Erasmus scholarship.

Courses
As a Freemover, as with all visiting students, you will have access to nearly all courses on offer. Most courses are taught in German, although many courses are offered in English as well. The course programme can be found under course information.

Examinations
As a visiting student, you are permitted to take examinations. Most visiting students take examinations during term time, which is before Christmas for the Fall semester and in late May for the Spring semester.

Depending on the course, examinations will also take place during the regular blocks (January/February for the Fall semester or May/June for the Spring semester). Freemover students may also take examinations during the regular blocks.

Continuing studies at the HSG
If you intend to begin a regular degree course at the HSG after your visiting semester, please note that examinations may only be counted towards an HSG degree course if they are taken during the regular HSG examination blocks. However, we cannot guarantee accreditation of these examinations. Applications for a full course of study at the HSG are checked again by the Admissions and Crediting Office.
