Prof. Dr. Benjamin Schindler

Benjamin J. Schindler is professor of public law at the University of St.Gallen. His current teaching and research interests focus on four subjects: administrative law, legal procedures, police law and the law of cross border administrative cooperation.

Benjamin J. Schindler (born 1971) studied law at the University of Zurich, which he graduated from in 1996. After working in a law firm he was admitted to the Zurich bar in 1998. From 1998 to 2000 he served as a research and teaching assistant in public law at the University of Zurich and published an award-winning doctoral thesis on bias in administrative decisions. From 2001 to 2004 he served as adjoint de direction and data protection commissioner of the Federal Office of Justice (Berne). In 2005 he received an MJur from Oxford University (St. John’s College). In 2006 and 2007 Benjamin Schindler was a visiting researcher at the Institute for German and European Administrative Law of the Heidelberg University. In 2008 Benjamin Schindler was awarded an SNSF professorship at the Institute for Public Law at the University of Berne. Since 2010 Benjamin Schindler holds a chair for Public Law at the University of St. Gallen. Benjamin Schindler is married and has three children.
